April Tax Solutions, Inc. and our affiliates (“April,” “we,” “us,” orour”) provide a range of services, including tax filing, tax planning, and wealth and investing services (collectively, the “Services”) in conjunction with financial institutions, employers and other partners (collectively, “Partners”) that embed our Services into their applications or otherwise make our Services available to you.
The Privacy Policy describes how we handle the personal information we collect in connection with the Services, including how we collect, use, and share personal information, and the choices we offer that affect our use of personal information. The personal information we collect about consumers who register for and use the Services is protected by financial privacy laws, such as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (“GLBA”). For Services for which we are considered a “tax return preparer” under federal tax law, we cannot disclose your tax return information to third parties, or use that information for purposes other than in the preparation of your tax returns, unless such disclosure or use is otherwise authorized by law or you consent to such disclosure or use. Accordingly, we may provide additional information about any such uses or disclosures and request your consent within the Services. In some cases, federal tax law makes your consent necessary in order to receive tax preparation services from us.
This Privacy Policy does not apply to information we collect via our website, https://www.getapril.com/, or in connection with marketing our Services and business to current or prospective Partners. In some situations we may process your personal information on behalf of a Partner, as a “service provider” (or “processor”) under applicable laws. In those situations, we process personal information only as instructed by the Partner, and your information is protected by our services agreement with the relevant Partner, not this Privacy Policy. If you use our Services where we are a service provider for our Partner, please review the Partner’s privacy policy or contact the Partner for more information on your rights and choices.
Personal Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of personal information.
  • Profile or contact data. This includes your name, email, phone number, address, and date of birth
  • Identification information. This includes your Social Security number and other government-issued identification, such as tax IDs.
  • Tax and financial information. This includes income, expenses, tax liabilities, refunds, benefits, investments, loans, employment, family information, records of personal property, and other similar information, as well as supporting documentation and any information you provide on forms you fill out or submit through the Services, and any communications, notifications, tax transcripts, or forms we receive from the IRS on your behalf.
  • Tax pro consultations. If you consult with our tax pros, we may collect audio recordings, transcripts or summaries of your conversations, and any information you choose to share during the consultation, such as your tax questions, advice notes or annotations generated from the consultation.
  • Financial account information. You may choose to connect financial accounts to the Services, such as your bank account. If you connect your accounts to the Services, we may collect your online login information, bank account and routing numbers, account balances, and other related information.
  • Payment and transactions information. We collect information about your transactions on the Services, including your payments and purchase history. Payment card information, such as credit or debit card number, is handled by our by our payment service providers, including Stripe, which may handle your information in accordance with its own privacy policy (https://stripe.com/privacy).
  • Communications that we exchange with you, including when you contact us with questions, feedback, or otherwise.
  • Marketing information. This includes your preferences for receiving communications about our Services and publications, and details about how you engage with our communications.
Automatic data collection. We and our service providers may automatically log information about you, your computer or mobile device, and your interaction over time with our Services, such as:
  • Device and network data, such as your computer’s or mobile device’s operating system, manufacturer and model, browser type, IP address, unique identifiers, language settings, mobile device carrier, and location information (derived from IP address) such as city, state or geographic area; and
  • Usage data, such as pages or screens you viewed, how long you spent on a page, browsing history, and access times, and page clicks, page scrolls, and page element interactions.
We may collect this information using software development kits (SDKs) and other similar technologies within the Services.
How We Use Personal Information
We use personal information for the following purposes:
To provide the Services. This includes creating and managing your account on the Services; providing you with access to the Services, including to: provide tax preparation and advisory services, submit tax returns to the IRS, help you manage communications with the IRS, allow you to consult tax consultants, process orders or other transactions, provide customer support, communicate with you and respond to any inquiries you may have, and otherwise provide any products, information or features you request or use through the Services.
Analytics, research, development, and improving our Services. We may use personal information to analyze and improve the Services, identify trends, and operate and expand our business activities, including for internal research, analytics and product development purposes. This includes analyzing tax returns and tax consultation transcripts to maintain quality standards, troubleshoot, identify frequent questions, and to improve our workflows. We may also create aggregated, anonymized, or other de-identified information, which we may use for lawful business purposes
Direct marketing. We may from time-to-time send you direct marketing communications as permitted by law, including, but not limited to, newsletters, and updates on news and events. You may opt out of our marketing emails as described in the “Unsubscribe from direct marketing communications” section below.
Compliance and protection. We may use personal information to: comply with applicable laws, lawful requests, and legal process, such as to respond to subpoenas or requests from government authorities; protect our, your or others’ rights, privacy, safety or property (including by making and defending legal claims); audit our internal processes for compliance with legal and contractual requirements and internal policies; enforce the terms and conditions that govern our website; and prevent, identify, investigate and deter fraudulent, harmful, unauthorized, unethical or illegal activity, including cyberattacks and identity theft.
How We Share Personal Information
We may share personal information with:
Partners. We share information with the Partner through which you access the Services, where necessary to provide you with your requested Services, such as to complete and file tax returns, manage tax refunds and tax payments, and confirm contact, financial, and identity information. We may also share your information with Partners as permitted by applicable laws, including with your consent where required by law, to offer joint promotional opportunities or to permit Partners to market or advertise to you based on information you provide to us.
Service providers. We share personal information with companies and individuals that provide services on our behalf or help us operate our Services or our business. These service providers include hosting services, communications, data and cyber security services, tax preparation providers, billing and payment processing services, identity verification, fraud detection, investigation and prevention services, web and mobile analytics, email and communication distribution and monitoring services, and customer relation management systems. We may also use services from providers of large language models and other AI services.
Professional advisors. We share personal information with professional advisors, such as tax consultants, lawyers, auditors, bankers and insurers, where necessary in the course of the professional services that they render to us or to you.
Authorities and others. We may share personal information with law enforcement, government authorities, and private parties, as we believe in good faith to be necessary or appropriate.
Business transferees. We may share personal information with acquirers and other relevant participants in business transactions (or negotiations for such transactions) involving a corporate divestiture, merger, consolidation, acquisition, reorganization, sale or other disposition of all or any portion of the business or assets of, or equity interests in, April or our affiliates (including, in connection with a bankruptcy or similar proceedings).
Your Privacy Choices
Unsubscribe from direct marketing communications. You may opt out of marketing-related communications by following the opt out or unsubscribe instructions contained in the marketing communication we send you. You may continue to receive service-related and other non-marketing communications.
Access your account. You may access your personal information through your account on the Services. In some instances, you may also have the ability to correct personal information that is out of date or inaccurate, or to delete personal information that is no longer needed for a permitted purpose.
Additional choices. We provide additional information about how you can control how we share your information in our GLBA Notice. Depending on the state in which you reside, you may also have the following rights:
  • Information. You may have the right to obtain information about how we collect, use, and share your personal information. We provide this information within this Privacy Policy.
  • Access, correction and deletion. You may also have the right to request access to your personal information, to correct personal information that is out of date or inaccurate, or to delete personal information that is no longer needed for a permitted purpose. If you have questions about we handle your personal information or if you believe your information is inaccurate or has been collected in error, please contact us as provided in the “Contact Us” section below and we will endeavor to resolve your questions or concerns. We may ask for specific information from you to help us confirm your identity. Data Security and Retention
We seek to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use and disclosure using appropriate physical, technical, organizational and administrative security measures based on the type of personal information and how we are processing that data. You should also help protect your data by appropriately selecting and protecting your password and/or other sign-on mechanism; limiting access to your computer or device and browser; and signing off after you have finished accessing your account. Although we work to protect the security of your account and other data that we hold in our records, please be aware that no method of transmitting data over the internet or storing data is completely secure.
We retain personal information about you for as long as you have an open account with us or as otherwise necessary to provide you with our Services. In some cases we retain personal information for longer, if doing so is necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes or collect fees owed, or is otherwise permitted or required by applicable law, rule or regulation. We may further retain information in an anonymous or aggregated form where that information would not identify you personally. From time to time, we may monitor the application of this Policy and require enforcement as needed
Children
Our Services are not intended for use by children. If we learn that we have collected personal information through our Services from a child without the consent of the child’s parent or guardian as required by law, we will endeavor to delete it.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time. If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify you by updating the date of this Privacy Policy.
